Writings by Kat, a Porchswingpoet

My friend Kat is my favorite Poet of all time. Her writings mesmerize me, I find that once I begin to read whatever Kat writes that I have to keep reading. There are not many writers who can hold my attention so I am in awe of that alone..lol Go to her site, have a look for yourself and when you do let me know what you think of it. Better yet, let Kat know as every writer loves praise for what they do and if you have any criticism it is not a bad thing to point that out to an author because we learn by others input.  I am sure that you will enjoy the writings of Kat Groenbeck.

From my writings

Times

In centuries that passed us by so many people lived to die.

Their souls flew on a rainbow high and hover still above the sky.

The souls of long ago are watching us below.

Loving us for who we are and not for what we sow.

Little neon ghosts are flitting passed the stars.

We are passing buildings in our little neon cars.

Milky ways and moon beams are shining in the heavens.

We are counting days gone by in six and eight and sevens.

Angels hang around to watch us leap and bound.

You'll never hear an angel cry, you only hear their heavenly sound.

Amidst the muck and mire our lives hang on a wire.

We'd rather be on rainbows than in the devils fire.

In centuries that passed so many years ago.

Soldiers were sent forth to plod the clean white snow.

They march to conquer for an emperor's greedy wrath.

Souls were left for dead in a raging bloody path.

Where there were no people, the land was left to grow.

Filtering the sunshine so winds could cleanly blow.

Hallowed be the woman who leaves her babe alone.

Upon her babies casket she will throw her limb and bone.

Give to me your love and call me to your womb.

Never let me hear the sigh of repentance or of doom.

I'll give to you your namesake on this very day.

If only you'll be happy and come with me to play.

My Tribute for a great person and his family, our friends!

Joe Budick, a man who was loved by all that knew him was a friend of mine. I have never seen Joe without a smile on his face and this is how I shall remember this loving husband, father and grandfather. I spoke with an elderly couple who came to pay their respects to Joe and his family today; they drove to Saugerties from way upstate in the Adirondak Region. I was told some wonderful stories about Joe and his brothers and his Mom, Rose Budick. I spoke with some other people and each of us had our own story about times spent with Joe and his family. Joes wife Barbara and son Scott and his daughters, Sue and Brenda greeted everyone who came to pay their tribute to him. Joes family has set up a Joe Budick Memorial Fund with the Ulster County Community College and it would be a wonderful thing to contribute to the fund because our contributions would be used to honor this very unique and loving individual.

We often wonder why God takes one of us from the earth and leaves others behind to grieve for them, especially when they are taken away so suddenly and in harsh circumstances. I guess that God needed Joe and if we do not question God's will we could safely assume that his need to have Joe with him was greater than our need to have him here. I love Joe and his family very much, as many of you do. Joe and his beautiful family have given so much pleasure to all that know them. How can we ever let the Budick family know exactly how much they all mean to us? Barbara, Scott, Sue and Brenda do know how much they mean to us when they look into our eyes. For Barbara,  kissing the cheek of the most precious thing in your whole life is why you breathe, it is why you wait. Yet there you sit, ever waiting but knowing that once in a lifetime, these feelings that were, still are, and will never ever pass.
Joe was a man for all seasons who soars upon the wings of Angels and who's spirit shall live on in the hearts of good men and women until the day when we can join him in his new home. Loving arms have taken Joe into heaven and someday we will fly with him through rainbows and streets of golden glitter.

A Real Short Story.....

What they offer us is a great education and a good solid religious background. This is what they tell our parents who are looking for a good parochial school to shove us kids into. I say it that way because this is the truth about my first experience in the catholic school I went to. Imagine being four years old and starting first grade in a catholic school where you were just one of sixty children per class room. Of course I was a smart kid, I already knew how to read a little and I could write pretty well for someone just hopping from toddler to student.

This day was my first and only day in that particular school because I left the class and started walking home. (Two older boys were sent after me to escort me home) The reason I did that you ask? Well, I decided that if the sister was stupid then I didn't belong in that class and that was all there was to it. When I got home my father and mother were home and they asked me why I was home. I told them "I quit!" My parents asked why I quit school and I told them that they were stupid there, that they drew crooked ones on the blackboard. My parents called the school and scheduled a conference with the sister who was my teacher and mother superior who was the principal of the school. You can imagine how my parents laughed when they came home from the meeting at the school. They told me that the sister was definitely NOT drawing crooked ones on the blackboard. She was drawing RAIN DROPS!

Well! I said, “Now isn’t that stupid?”
